AMBER is not really a stone, but a fossil. It is a fossil resin from coniferous trees. Baltic amber, generally considered of the best quality, is found on the shores of the Baltic Sea. Amber beads have been found in gravesites dating back to 8000 B.C.E. Because amber is warm to the touch, it was thought to contain life. This may explain why the beads were buried with the person. Because of it's warm, rich color, amber is considered a sun stone. It has been used in spells to attract money, success, status, beauty, love, good luck and power. If you are familiar with the Tarot cards, you will recognize the attributes of the Sun card. Necklaces of amber and jet are popular in some circles to symbolize the Goddess and God, light and dark, life, death and rebirth. Adding a piece of amber to any spell will increase and heighten the magickal effects of the spell. If you rub a piece of amber against silk, it will become electrically charged. This property "charges" the spell.
